Mud, Clay, and Finding Home on the Isle of Lewis

Where to start… I’ve always loved playing in mud, puddles, rain, and dirt. The feeling of it in my hands—and yes, even between my toes—is strangely comforting. And now? I get to do that every day, but on a slightly more sophisticated level: with clay.
My first encounter with ceramics was at summer camp. I didn’t think much of it. Then in high school, my art class went to a local college to try ceramics and glass. The glass laser scared me (still does), so I begged for more wheel throwing. That small spark stuck. The next fall, applying to college, my mum suggested the ceramics program at Sheridan College. I said I’d try it, reserving the right to quit after two years. I didn’t quit. I fell in love. Fast forward, and I now proudly hold a BA in Craft and Design, specializing in Ceramics.
After graduating in 2020 (cue dramatic sigh), I moved to Scotland for two years. Family here welcomed me, and the island—oh, the island! The hills, the sea, the weather—it’s unique, quiet, and peaceful… until the wind and rain remind you who’s boss. It was here I also found love. After two years, my partner and I decided to try life back in Canada.
In Canada, I returned to my old job at The Ye11ow Studio, where I’d done my college internship. Without that incredible team—and especially Dawn teaching me the magic of functional pottery and the importance of every small movement—I wouldn’t be where I am today. I gained the confidence to dream bigger: to start my own studio and return to the Isle of Lewis.
And here we are. Back on the island, starting a new chapter: island life, building a small pottery studio, and sharing it all with my husband. It’s scary, exciting, and deeply rewarding. I’m committed to myself, to my work, and to seeing where this adventure goes.
Welcome to Stack & Tumble Pottery Studio: handmade pottery on the Isle of Lewis, made with love, and designed to bring comfort to your everyday life.
